Mud-daubers: Sphecidae
Certain Sphecid wasps construct their nests of mud, and are commonly known as “mud daubers.” They are frequently observed visiting the edges of mud puddles during the summer, where they obtain mud to make their nests. Their mud nests are often found plastered among the rafters of attics, garages, or out buildings, or on the side of buildings. Mud-daubers typically prey on spiders. Mud-daubers do possess the ability to sting, although it is not likely.
